Man's day

Yesterday, I learned a bit about gender issues in Mozambique. I found out that every Friday is Man's Day in Mozambique. Women get one day each year, the International Day of the Woman, while men get one day each week, Friday.

I spent Man's Day having a manly dinner of steak, french fries and beer. I then went home read for a bit and then watched 3 episodes of the West Wing (thanks Dave!).

On a related note, last Friday, June 1, was International Day of the Children, which did not go unnoticed amongst the local street kids. Several of the kids came up to my colleagues asking : "today is International Day of the Children. What are you going to give me?"

dude I thought every day was man's day-- you mean it is only on Friday in Mozambique? Must be rough...

but honestly kudos to you and Jas for getting out there, and for finally telling me about your blogspot, I can now spend the next few days reading your past entries--it is a great way to procrastinate at the office. Cant wait. Thanks!
